This is the best fitting, warmest, most ingeniously designed hat EVER! (Ask for testimonials from any of the staff. We've all tried it!) The headband folds along a slip-stitch edge, providing a squishy, double-layer of garter stitch that cozily cups your ears.

You will learn a provisional cast-on to begin the headband and learn how to increase and decrease stitches as we shape the ear flaps. We will discuss 3 different options for joining the two ends of the headband together, so you can pick the one you are most interested in mastering. You will then learn how to pick-up stitches along the headband's doubled-edge, in order to work the body of the hat in the round.

The pattern was designed for The Seaman's Institute by Kristine Byrnes. It was inspired by a hat she saw pictured in a magazine that had been published around 1910.

Skill Level: Intermediate. To be successful in this class, you should know how to knit, purl, read a pattern, and knit in the round.
