Have you learned how to knit and purl and feel ready to put your skills to use in your first knitted project? Have you knit projects on straight needles and would like to learn how to knit-in-the-round on circular needles? Join us for this two-session class, where we will knit a simple yet stylish hat together
We will learn to:
Read a pattern for a knitted item
Knit in the round using circular and/or double-pointed needles
Put knit stitches and purl stitches together in ribbing and patterning
Decrease stitches in the round
Weave in yarn ends after the hat is complete
Skill Level: Beginner
Prerequisites and/or Homework: To be successful in this class, you should know how to cast on, knit, and purl.
Supplies to bring to class: (registered students receive 10% off class supply purchases)
Worsted weight yarn in one of the following amounts: 170 yards for large adult hat, 150 yards for medium adult hat, 110 yards for small adult hat, 90 yards for child hat, 80 yards for toddler hat, or 70 yards for baby hat. (Shop sample is medium adult hat knit from one ball of Kenzie by HiKoo)
16-inch #6 (4 mm) circular needle
16-inch #8 (5 mm) circular needle
Six stitch markers - five of one color and one of a second color
At the start of the second class, we will discuss decreasing in the round. We will cover both double-pointed needles and the magic loop method, which uses a circular needle with a long cord. If you have a set of #8 double-pointed needles or a #8 circular needle with a cord 32" or longer, please bring them to this class; otherwise, you may choose to purchase one or the other type of needle at Northfield Yarn during the second class.
