Melanie Berg has released a new pattern called “Together Apart” … just the ticket if you’d like to knit a yarn “hug” for someone you can’t hug in person over the phone or through video chats.

Together Apart is an asymmetrical triangle shawl knit with a main garter stitch body that has sections of lace. We’ve put together several different colorways using two skeins of Madelinetosh Tosh Merino Light for the main color and Unicorn Tail mini-skein of a different color for the contrast stripes. The sample images show the shawl using Copper Pink (MC) and Phantasm (CC), and also reversed with Phantasm (MC) and Copper Pink (CC). We're proposing Matcha (MC) and Glazed Pecan as a fun alternative.

In addition to the yarn, you’ll need the Together Apart pattern (available for purchase on Ravelry), US 4 (3.5 mm) needles, or the size needed to match a gauge of 10 stitches by 20 rows = 2 inches in garter stitched (blocked), and the usual knitting notions (markers, scissors, etc.).

Check out all our kit selections. You might want to knit one for yourself in addition to a friend or family member!
